Grace Antwiwaa had always been the strong one in her family, being in school of fashion and also a bar attender in Accra with a smile that hid the pain she carried. For years, fibroid had drained her energy, leaving her weak and anxious. When the doctor finally recommended surgery, Grace knew it was her only chance at relief.
The operation itself was successful, but the cost weighed heavily on her. Hospital bills, medications, and follow‑up visits stretched far beyond what she had saved. She collected her two month salary and borrowed from a cousin just to settle the balance.
Each receipt felt like a reminder that healing came at a price, as the weeks passed, Grace noticed some differences.That she could feel pain at her neck , pain at her waist and at her spine.she visited the hospital regularly for consultations to be rented about the new charges in her body.
She began to see the expense not just as money lost, but as an investment in her future,Still the financial strain lingered. Grace learned to budget more carefully, cutting unnecessary costs and setting aside a small amount each week for health emergencies. She also stated that , every mouth after the consultation, she still has to buy traditional medicine which cost about 2,000 Ghana cedis since the medication is not working for her.
She shared her story in the community reminding them that while surgery is costly, the value of restored health is immeasurable.Grace journey was not just about overcoming fibroids, it was about resilience. The cost after surgery was steep, but the reward was priceless a second chance at life, strength, and hope.
